Cape Charles on Virginia's Eastern Shore is located on the Chesapeake Bay just 30 minutes from Virginia Beach. It was the terminal for ferry services to cross the Bay to Norfolk and Hampton but the last ferry left in 1953. A designated Historic District, the town has maintained its Victorian charm and offers a unique escape into an Americana flavor from the past with one of the largest concentrations of late-Victorian and turn-of-the-century buildings on the East Coast. Cape Charles features several restaurants, shops, art galleries, and bed & breakfasts in addition to the renovated Palace Theatre, a classic art deco gem where the workshop takes place. The town fronts the open waters of the Chesapeake Bay and has a sandy beachfront park. Nearby Kiptopeke State Park offers birding and nature study and more beach and bay.
